Namkeen pheni is perfectly suited for evening snacks and with tea time. You might have tried sweet pheni, in the same way, I have made this namkeen pheni. Namkeen pheni is a deep-fried snack made from all-purpose flour and other spices. Namkeen pheni with step by step photos and video.

Namkeen Pheni Recipe:

Ingredients for making dough:
1. Maida - 2 cups
2. Salt - to taste
3. Oil - 2 tsp
4. Chilli powder - half tsp
5. Carom seeds / Ajwain - half tsp
6. Cumin seeds / jeera - 1 tsp
7. Curry leaves - 5 No's
8. Water - as required

Ingredients for frying:
1. Oil - to deep fry

Steps of making dough:
1. First in a medium-hot pan roast 1 tsp cumin seeds and 5 curry leaves and powder it.

2. In a large mixing bowl add 2 cups of all-purpose flour/maida, half tsp carom seeds, cumin and curry leave powder and 2 tsp oil.

3. Next, mix it well so the masala get mix with flour and add required water and knead it in a soft dough.

4. Rest this dough for at least 30 minutes.



Steps of making Namkeen pheni:
1. Divide the dough into 7 portions and make small size balls. Then roll all these balls into the sheet.

2. Make a paste of 2 tsp oil and 2 tsp all-purpose flour/maida to apply on sheets.

3. Firstly take a sheet and apply evenly prepared paste on it. Continue this step for all 7 sheets. And spread the paste evenly on sheets.

4. Then start rolling it and apply all the remaining paste on it and gently roll it.

5. Take this roll and cut its slices with the help of a knife.

6. Then flat the slices and dust it with maida and roll it.

7. Heat the oil in a Kadai for deep fry and fry the pheni from both the side and take it out.

8. Pheni is ready to serve. You can make it and store for 1 week.
