Puran Poli | Holige | bele obattu recipe with step by step photos and video. Call it Puran Poli | holige | bele obattu doesn't make any difference in its taste and flavour. In Maharashtra, it is famous as Puran poli, whereas, in Karnataka, it is popular as holige and bele obattu. Basically, holige or Puran Poli is a sweet bread made out of maida and stuff with chana dal and jaggery stuffing. Holige or Puran poli is made in the time of the festival. It can be even made differently by stuffing coconut filling called as coconut holige. Serving holige or puran poli with ghee is divine.
The holige dough should be soft and sticky as it makes holige soft. If the dough is hard then the holige will turn hard.

Ingredients for making the dough :
1. Maida - 2 large cup
2. Haldi - 1/4 tsp
3. Oil - 1/2 cup
4. Water - as required

Ingredients for making stuffing:
1. Chana dal - 2 large cup
2. Jaggery - 1 cup
3. Cardamom - 2 seeds crushed
4. Water - 2 cups

Steps of making the dough:
1. To make holige firstly prepare its dough. In a large mixing bowl take maida and haldi, combine well. Further, add the water as required and prepare a dough.

2. The dough should be a sticky and soft dough.

3. Then pour 3 tsp oil and kneed it to be soft. Then again add 3tsp oil and rest the dough for Atleast 4 hours or more.

Steps of making stuffing :
1. Once the dough is ready, next prepare the stuffing. Pressure cook chana dal with haldi and 2 cups of water for 3 whistles.

2. When the cooker releases its pressure check the dal. The dal should be cooked well but retain its shape.

3. If there is excess water in dal then drain it. Then further add this cooked dal in grinder with jaggery and crushed cardamom seeds. And grind it well till its smooth.

4. Then transfer this mixture in the pan and cook in medium flame till it becomes thick. Cool it to stuff in holige.


Steps of making holige | Puran Poli | bele obattu :
1. Knead the dough slightly and make a small ball sized dough and flatten.

2. Make the lemon size ball of stuffing. And palace it in the centre of the dough.

3. Bring the edges together and make it a big ball and the stuffing is properly covered.

4. Then next on a cover put 1 tsp oil and flatten the ball in roti. Holige edges should be thin otherwise it will turn hard.


5. Heat the Tawa and put holige on it and cook it from both sides.

6. Make the same of the remaining dough and stuffing in holige and enjoy this while hot with ghee.
